Living for the weekend right? That moment we all have when you realize you have a few days to do whatever you want; no meetings, no conference calls, just pure unadulterated weekend vibes.

Let’s face it, all week long we look for ways to remind ourselves of the good stuff only weekends can provide.

One thing’s certain anytime we sip or squeeze a Mamma Chia during our work day, there’s that instant sensation of weekend bliss. It’s a mini inner-body-parts-reviv-acation we wish would last all day, and so desperately need.

So with tomorrow being Fri-yay, we’ve come up with three ways you can weekend all week and make your actual weekends count.

1. Don’t Sleep In

Studies show you can’t actually catch up on the sleep you miss, and waking up late on those weekend days messes with you when good ol’ Monday roles around.

Instead SLOW DOWN. Don’t be in such a hurry to get out the door. Have some morning coffee while staying in your pajamas a little bit longer.

*Tip: Diffuse lavender essential oils, or tuck dried lavender filled pouches in your pillow. Lavender helps you sleep so you’ll wake up feeling like everyday isn’t Monday!

2. Yoga

No slumping into the couch all weekend. Many of us have jobs that cause us to be sedentary for a good portion of our day.

We are free spirits, our bodies are truly healthiest when they reflect that.

There are so many outlets available and they don’t have to cost a lot either! Find a free class, or snag that Groupon, or YouTube it. Whatever you do just find yourself a space and stretch out your body.

3.  Reward

You work your butt off! Rewarding ourselves with positive thoughts, energy, and the occasional gift is so important in generating a constant light around ourselves.

Don’t let a reward be self-destructive the way a two-for-one happy hour can be, or a cheat meal full of processed food satisfying something emotional that ends up making you feel bloated.

A reward can be enjoying good company, buying yourself flowers, taking that weekend trek to somewhere new and exciting. Reward your hard work and be lighter for it!

There comes a moment when our hearts scream for chocolate. Our minds tell us no, stay away from the sugar packed, processed, artificial deliciousness that is most chocolate candies and treats. We have the solution! Not only is this recipe so easy to make, but it literally will take you ten minutes. Time is of the essence when it comes to consuming chocolate, there is literally no time to waste. So here they are! Our “Too Good To Be Two Ingredient (or vegan) Chocolate Truffles.”



What You Need

1 Cup + 4 Tablespoons Vegan Chocolate

1 Cup Organic Almond Milk (or coconut)

*For our topping we used raw slivered almonds. You can use really anything. Some other options are cocoa powder, powdered sugar, sesame seeds, other sorts of crushed nuts, etc.

For The Filling 

Simply chop chocolate
Heat up the almond (or coconut) milk
Pour over chocolate
Chill (or don’t chill and sit and eat it with a spoon, no one says you have to finish these.)

For The Coating 

While the filling chill melt straight chocolate in a double boiler

Once they are chilled scoop them and roll into small balls

Dip them into a the melted chocolate and roll around in the almonds

Chill again.

Eat them!
Have one, two, or ten. These things are bordering the line of healthy, so it’s rude to only eat one.

For The Smoothie:

2 Large Handfuls of Frozen or Fresh Blueberries

1 Large Handfuls of Frozen or Fresh Raspberries

2 Ripe Bananas(Use frozen for extra texture)

*Try using half an avocado or frozen mango instead of banana

1/2 cup Organic Apple Sauce

Handful of Ice

1/4 Cup Organic Almond Milk

Blend until you’ve got the blues!

Layer it up!

Create a base with Mamma Chia Vitality Granola

Pour that blues smooth smoothie in

Follow with another layer of granola and pack the top with fresh fruit

*Optional Goat Cheese



1⁄2 Blackberry Bliss Squeeze

1⁄2 Cup Balsamic Vinegar

1⁄2 Cup Cherry Preserves

1⁄4 Cup Red Wine Vinegar

1 Cup Olive Oil

Dash Pink Himalayan Salt

Dash of Pepper



Make the salad. You got this on dial. Slice those figs, toss on the blackberries, chia seeds, pistachios, and crumble the goat cheese.

For the Dressing

In a medium saucepan on medium high heat add vinegar, until boiling then simmer till reduced by half. (You’re making a reduction) Add preserves and cook 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Whisk in red wine vinegar, Black Berry Blast Chia Squeeze, and then the olive oil. Season with salt & pepper.

*If you don’t have the time, or the motivation to make the dressing from scratch, this salad pairs well with any sort of balsamic dressing. Simply drizzle the squeeze directly onto the finished salad.

Cold Symptom Relieving Tea

2 teaspoons organic sage

Juice of one organic lemon (or one teaspoon lemon balm herb)

Pinch cayenne pepper

1 tablespoon (15 ml) organic honey (preferably raw)

2 teaspoons of Mamma Chia Organic Chia Seeds

*To prepare the tea, pour one cup boiling water over sage and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain out herbs, add remaining ingredients, and drink hot.

Diffuser Congestion Blend

2 drops of Eucalyptus

2 drops of Lemon

3 drops of Peppermint

*Essential oils are a great way to make aromatherapy a part of your day-to-day regimen. Plus, there are truly astounding health benefits from using aromatherapy! Essential oils have the ability to boost energy levels, speed up healing, eliminate headaches, strengthen our immune systems, improve digestion, act as a cleaning agent, and purify air. Use this blend to help ease any congestion!

Chest Rub

2 drops of lavender

2 drops of frankincense

4 drops of cedarwood or melaleuca

4 drops of wild orange

1 1/2 tbs Shea butter

1 1/2 tsp organic coconut oil

*Gently melt the Shea butter and coconut oil together. Remove from heat and stir in essential oils. Transfer to a container with a tight fitting lid. (A jar or Tupperware works fine)

2017 is essentially here and with the New Year comes a whole list of resolutions! Resolutions can be daunting, truly limiting to our unconscious. Common resolutions people make are often intended to break a pattern, or accomplish something they feel will change their lives for the better. Truth is, 80% of those who make resolutions on January 1 will have given up by Valentine’s Day!

So this year, we’ve decided to skip the resolutions altogether! We have come up with two positive ways to set a tone of inspiration and creativity in 2017.

First pick a mantra. A mantra is a powerful word or phrase that creates meaning differently than a typical sentence. A mantra, when repeated over and over, affirms our belief in ourselves. We begin to allow its meaning to seep below the surface, into our subconscious, helping to shift our negative habits and patterns into positive ones. A mantra can have a significant impact on our lives!

What we think and speak shapes how we feel inside and how we see the world around us. Boost your confidence this year and allow yourself to highlight and focus in on trust, courage, love, creativity, success, confidence, balance, partnership & clarity. Use words that are clear and easy to remember. Begin each day by repeating your mantra out loud or silently to yourself. Allow the words to guide your daily intentions and be the driving force of positivity!  Here are some examples:

We also think a bucket list is more interesting than a list of resolutions as it inspires us to explore, create, and make time for growing as individuals! Whether it’s exploring a new place, or trying a new activity, this list can consist of items that are as simple as eating at a restaurant you’ve been driving by for years or visiting your family a little more often. Your list can grow through the year as new ideas manifest themselves. Enjoy the simplicity of it. Set time aside to allow yourself to check off the items on your bucket list instead of your resolutions list! Your bucket list is a group of things you should look forward to doing, a way of creating new memories and trying something new!

We love sharing our chia seed recipes with you and wanted to change things up! We reached out to some of our most influential and inspiring brand ambassadors and asked them: “How do you use chia?” We were so delighted by their creativity, we just had to share this round-up of why they love the Magic of Chia®.   • (2) 8 oz. package of pitted dates
  • 1 cup coconut sugar or 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp of water (*only add this if using coconut sugar and not maple syrup)
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil (optional)
  • 3 Tbsp Mamma Chia Organic Chia Seeds
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1-1 1/2 cups mulberries (or Rice Krispies/oats)
  • 1/4 cup organic coconut shreds


  1. Chop dates until sticky. In a large flat pan mix in water, coconut oil and coconut sugar. Cook on medium to low heat stirring consistently until you reach a paste-like consistency. (This will roughly take about 10 minutes or until you see little bubbles).
  2. Add vanilla while letting it cool down to touch.
  3. Mix in chia seeds, coconut, and mulberries (or Rice Krispies).
  4. Once combined, roll into balls and transfer to a plate with coconut shreds and roll again.
  5. Store in an air tight container and in the refrigerator.

Chia Pudding:


  • Coconut flakes
  • Strawberries
  • 1/2 banana

Chocolate Avocado Mousse:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • Less than 1/4 almond milk
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 4 Tbsp maple syrup


  1. Whisk chia pudding ingredients together and chill in fridge for 2-3 hours.
  2. Add avocado mousse ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth. Chill in the refrigerator until the chia pudding is ready.
  3. Once chia seeds have created a pudding like consistency begin to layer the pudding into a glass with coconut, bananas, fresh fruit, and top with the chilled avocado mousse you prepared earlier for a nutritious and decadent treat!
  4. Store any remaining leftovers in an air tight container and place in the refrigerator for later.
  5. Dig in and enjoy!

We’re feeling hot, hot, hot this month as the summer days are coming to an end. Squeeze in some last minute rays and spice up your warm weather game with these DIY Summer Essentials. As pre and post sun necessities, this beach towel and aloe vera go hand-in-hand, especially when the majority of the day is spent outside basking in the sun.

DIY Beach Towel

Let your creative soul shine through with this custom beach towel made with one common household item…bleach! Create witty summer sayings like “In need of Vitamin Sea”, “Salty but Sweet”, or “Seas the Day” on your favorite colored towel. You can also ditch the quote and create a bleach design like (splatters, polka dots, stripes, tie dye, etc.) instead! Your towel can be anything you want it to be. Get crafting and show off your towel at the beach or pool before your summer fun is over!

*We suggest adult supervision if working with children

DIY Summer Essentials

What You Need: 

  • beach towel
  • 1/2 cup bleach
  • 1/2 water
  • rubber gloves
  • card board
  • spray bottle
  • thick paper, card stock, or stencils

  1. Type out the quote you chose onto a document making sure letters are big enough so when you go to print there is only one letter per page. If you are using store bought stencils skip to Step 3.
  2. Cut down the letters into smaller rectangles so when you place them on the towel they are as close together as possible. Remove the inside lettering from the rectangle to create a stencil, but remember to keep inside pieces that have holes in the center i.e. (D, O, R).
  3. In a well ventilated area, set up your work surface by laying out a piece of cardboard to place the towel on. Set your stencils on the towel in the desired order. To avoid splattering outside of your stencils use extra pieces of cardboard to surround any open space that could be ruined if you want a more clean look to your towel. Also, tape any seams between each stencil to prevent bleeding in between letters (see in photo below). DIY Summer Essentials
  4. Mix 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup bleach into a squirt bottle. Put your rubber gloves on and begin to spray the letters evenly with the bleach mixture. BEFORE spraying make sure to twist the squirt bottle cap and test each spray until you reach a light mist. This is very important so you don’t over-saturate the towel with bleach causing your letters to bleed with one another. Stand 2-3 feet away as you spray to lightly cover the stencils. Spray no more than 15 times. From there use your judgement for how much more you should spray for your desired look. Depending on the towel some colors will change quickly, others like the one in the photo, will take a while to notice any change so be patient during this process. Once finished spraying, let the bleached towel sit for no more than 10 minutes.
  5. After 10 minutes and with rubber gloves on, remove towel from work surface and rinse out the towel in a sink or tub with cold water. Wring out the towel and toss it into a washer with laundry detergent. Transfer to a dryer after it’s finished. While towel is in the wash dispose of the cardboard and stencils with gloves on.DIY Summer Essentails
  6. Once towel is dried, take it for a trip to the beach or hit the pool and show off your summer creation!


DIY Aloe Vera Cooling Cubes

After a day full of fun in the sun your skin may be a little irritated with you. We all know the common remedy to curing sun burnt skin is aloe vera. But, before you go out and buy the store bought option create your own 100% natural aloe vera cooling cubes at home. They will relieve your skin and have it thanking you and singing “aloe you vera much”, after this extra special treatment. Chill out! Not only will this organic remedy take some heat off, it will also cool your skin to the touch since this DIY remedy requires freezing to help soothe and return your skin to its happy state.

What You Need: 

  • dixie cups or ice cube tray
  • lavender essential oil
  • 2 Tbsp avocado oil
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp witch hazel extract
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel from Medical Aloe Plant

DIY Summer Essentials


  1. Melt your coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl for 10-15 seconds if solid. Remove from microwave, add 2 tablespoons of avocado oil, mix the two ingredients together and set aside.
  2. Remove a few stems from your aloe plant that will give you at least 1/4 cup of aloe gel. It is very important that you are using aloe from a Medical Aloe Plant as this is specifically used for topical usage. Skin the aloe gel from its outer shell until you have several clear gel strips. Dice the aloe and add to the bowl of coconut and avocado oil.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of witch hazel to the bowl and 8-10 drops of lavender essential oil.
  4. Whisk together all the ingredients until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Pour mixture into dixie cups and freeze overnight.
  6. Remove from freezer and rip around the edges of the dixie cup until aloe pop is exposed. Slowly move across sun burnt shoulders, arms, and legs to soothe your skin. Pop any remaining aloe back in the freezer for next time.

Meditation is the practice of creating peace with oneself and occurs when the mind is calm and silent. This practice dates back to around 1500 B.C. There are a few different ways to approach meditation, but the most common form for beginners is through mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation is a simple way to ease into growing your practice and can help open up your mind to other styles of meditation later on. There are many physical and mental benefits that come from practicing meditation on a consistent basis.

Meditation can:

  • Help relieve stress
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve sleeping habits
  • Gain clarity and peace of mind
  • Increase energy levels

Before you begin any type of meditation you will need to find a quiet place away from any distractions. Make sure to put away and turn off any technology that may interrupt your practice. When choosing your meditation spot you should find a place where you can relax and one that you can visit on a consistent basis. The more frequently you meditate in a repeated location the more comfortable and at ease you will be to take your meditation to a deeper level. Feel free to use a cushion or blanket to sit on while you meditate or simply take a seat on the ground.

After you pick a location, take a seat with legs loosely crossed and sit upright. Palms rest facing down on the tops of your thighs and eyes will shut as you begin to concentrate on your breath moving in and out through your nose. Tuck your chin in a little to create added length to the back of your neck and relax your jaw.

Once settled, place one palm over your heart and one over your belly. Feel your heart beating into one palm as your belly fills and empties in the other. Keep your hands here and engage your pranayama, Sanskrit for breathing, to calm the mind and prepare it for meditation. The most common form of pranayama is 4-4-4-4 breathing. This means you will fill up your lungs as you count to 4, pause at the top for 4 seconds, exhale for 4, and hold at the bottom of your breath for 4 seconds. Keep breathing like this for 10 rounds.

Meditation For BeginnersRelease your hands back to your thighs, palms can face down again or palms can face up as you connect your index finger to your thumb creating your Jnana (juhnah-nuh) Mudra. This mudra will clear the mind and improve concentration. Find stillness in your thoughts, bringing awareness to your breath and its natural movement, rising and falling in your chest. Bring attention to your third eye, the spot between your eyebrows, as you silence your mind. This may be difficult to do at first, but remember it’s okay if thoughts come and go throughout your meditation. Allow yourself to gently acknowledge those thoughts and then release them, just like waves rolling in and out on a beach. Welcome any miscellaneous thoughts with a light heart and let them be taken back out to sea.

Let your body ground itself to the Earth below you as you continue to find stillness for 5 more minutes. It’s okay if your practice ends up short or past the remaining 5 minutes. Once you find yourself slowly starting to bring yourself back to the present, bring your hands to your heart’s center so that your palms face one another. Give yourself permission to slip away from what your day has in store and allow yourself to enjoy a brief moment of peace. Slowly blink your eyes awake as you complete your meditation. Note that this is your practice and there are no rights or wrongs. Your practice will continue to develop the more you meditate. Consistency is key to meditation rather than how long the duration of meditation lasts.

According to The Chia Cookbook, “Chia may look like the other seeds in your spice rack, but it’s best to think about this member of the mint family (its botanical name is Salvia Hispanica) as a food rather than a garnish or flavoring. In fact, chia is a whole food, and its qualities are distinctly different from anything else in your cupboard.” Unlike flaxseeds, chia does not need to be ground in order to benefit from the nutrients. However, keep in mind that both whole and ground chia are nutritiously the same.

Chia as a flour substitute

Milled chia is a great substitute for all-purpose flour in a variety of recipes. Use milled chia to thicken soups, mix it with bread crumbs to coat chicken or fish, or use it as a flour replacement in baking! You can even mill your own chia at home with a coffee grinder!

Chia as an egg substitute

Chia eggs” are probably one of the best ways to use chia in cooking or baking! When chia is hydrated to the right consistency, it forms a gel that’s as thick and smooth as an egg. This makes it a perfect egg replacement in baking, an excellent binder in recipes like meatballs, or an egg “extender” for frittatas and omelets. To replace one large egg, combine one tablespoon of chia seeds with three tablespoons of room-temperature water. Whisk together and let sit until it forms into a gel.

Tip: think beyond water! Using juice, broth, almond, coconut or dairy milk to hydrate the chia will add more flavor to whatever dish you’re creating. Always be sure to use room-temperature gels! Cold liquids can make the gelling process take longer.

More ways to use chia gel

For smoothies, cocktails, and soups, use a thin chia gel by whisking together 2 tablespoons of chia seeds with 1 cup of room-temperature water. More ideas for that are below!

For condiments, dips, salad dressings, sauces, and egg dishes, use a thick chia gel by whisking together 1 tablespoon of chia seeds with 3 tablespoons of room-temperature purified water.

According to The Chia Cookbook, replace up to one-quarter of the flour called for in a recipe with milled chia. This will give your baked goods a healthy makeover, raising their fiber, protein and Omega-3s.

When using chia gel to replace an egg in baking, it will add water to your recipe, which can result in slightly moister baked goods. Try adding chia to your next loaf of banana bread! If you’re aiming for a drier texture, simply add a few minutes to the baking time to allow the excess liquid to evaporate.

Chia pudding might be one of the most traditional ways to use chia. It’s so easy to make, we can see why! A creamy chia pudding makes a wonderful breakfast that’s packed with Omega-3s and complete protein to keep you energized throughout the day. Similar to chia gel, combine 1/2 cup of chia seeds with 2 cups milk of choice. Add in your choice of sweetener, extracts or spices; whether it’s cinnamon, vanilla, honey, maple syrup, etc. the opportunities are endless! Chia seeds are wonderful for garnishing any meal! Add a visually pleasing contrast by sprinkling chia seeds over curries and soups! Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons on top of a salad to give it a nice crunch. Whisk chia into your yogurt or sprinkle it on your ice cream. Spread some on top of a bagel with cream cheese, or mix them into a stir-fry or pasta sauce. With spring in full swing, it’s time to rid our homes of dirt and debris (especially with allergy season upon us)! With a plethora of chemical-based cleaners occupying the shelves, we wanted put together these easy-to-use, non-toxic cleaners for you to make at home. After all, the home should be treated as a sacred space, not a space full of toxic chemicals! Non-toxic, biodegradable matter is so important for us to utilize in every aspect of our lives, from food to cleaning products.

Spring Cleaning: DIY Non-Toxic Household Cleaner

What You’ll Need…

  • Pure baking soda
  • Pure-castile liquid soap (we love Dr. Bronner’s organic and fair trade soaps!)
  • 100% pure tea tree essential oil
  • Organic apple cider vinegar (we love Bragg’s!)
  • Spray bottle(s)

All-Purpose Cleaner

This cleaner will be your new best friend! With pure essential oils and organic soap, you will love the aroma this non-toxic cleaner will release in your home! Measure 1/4 cup Dr. Bronner Pure-Castile Soap (we love the lavender scent!) with 1 quart water in a spray bottle. Add 25 drops of pure tea tree essential oil. Adjust measurements as needed to fit your spray bottle.

Measure 1/3 – 1/2 cup pure-castile liquid soap for a large load + 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar to the rinse cycle. Use half the amount for high efficiency (HE) washers. Vinegar works magic on your clothes! It helps to remove musty odors and brighten colors! Tip: prevent bright colored clothes from staining other garments by soaking them in vinegar for 20 minutes before their first wash!


Measure 1/2 cup pure-castile liquid soap with 3 gallons of hot water.


Measure 1 Tbsp. pure-castile liquid soap with 1 quart of water in a spray bottle. Spray down your windows and wipe with a cloth soaked in half water half vinegar mixture.


Predilute pure-castile liquid soap 1:4 with water in a squirt bottle and add 25 drops of pure tea tree oil. Turn off the water on the side of the toilet and then flush to drain the water out of your toilet. Spray down the inside of the toilet bowl with the spray bottle contents and let sit for 10 minutes. Sprinkle baking soda on toilet cleaning brush and scrub toilet thoroughly. Turn the water on to fill the bowl with water, then flush.

On February 15th, Mamma Chia sponsored athlete and “ultrarunner” Adam Kimble will attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of America on foot (a record that has stood still for 36 years)!

The standing record was set by American Frank Giannino Jr., who ran from San Francisco to New York from September 1st to October 17th, 1980. Giannino’s journey lasted 46 days, 8 hours and 36 minutes. Adam hopes to complete the trek in 45 days or less. Wow!

His course begins in Huntington Beach, California, and will finish in New York City. Adam will run through a total of 16 states with an estimated distance of 3,030 miles.

We are absolutely thrilled to be supporting him through this incredible endeavor. We hope that through our support, Adam will maintain the strength and stamina he needs to achieve his goal.

We love our Mamma Chia community and enjoy the authentic connections and personal interactions we share. One of the questions we often get is whether Mamma Chia products are Non-GMO. Being Non-GMO is part of the USDA Certification process, so as all Mamma Chia products are USDA Organic, they are naturally Non-GMO too!

What does it mean to be Organic?

USDA Certified Organic products are produced without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers, antibiotics, synthetic hormones, genetic engineering, sewage sludge (yes! that’s a conventional farming input), or irradiation. Yay! Who wants that?!

And, in order for Organic farms and processors to get certified they:

  • Do not use genetically modified ingredients
  • Preserve natural resources and biodiversity
  • Support animal health and welfare
  • Provide access to the outdoors so that animals can exercise their natural behaviors
  • Only use approved materials
  • Receive annual onsite inspections
  • Separate organic food from non-organic food


What does it mean to be Non-GMO (Non-Genetically Modified)?

Foods that are Non-GMO are free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and are not created in a laboratory using genetic engineering techniques.

Is Non-GMO always Organic?

With flu season in full swing, we all do our best to avoid those pesky sniffles and coughs.  We’re mindful to take good care of ourselves by washing our hands, working out and nourishing our bodies with chia (of course!), but sometimes it’s just not enough and we get run down.  So when those winter colds get the best of you, we have just the thing to put you on the path to feeling better; a simple DIY home remedy!

DIY Cold & Flu Aromatherapy | Mamma Chia Blog


  • 2 cups of purified water
  • 5 organic lemon slices
  • 1 Tbsp. of organic dried rosemary
  • 7-8 organic whole cloves
  • 4-5 drops organic essential oil blend of your choice (our blend contained: lemongrass, coriander, clove, oregano, thyme, and red mandarin)


  1. In a large pot combine water, lemon, rosemary and cloves and heat to a simmer on your stove top.
  2. Once it is heated to a steam, turn off the stove and add essential oil.
  3. Deeply inhale the aromas from the combined ingredients until satisfied.
