Mamma Chia: Women Owned and Female Founded

We are excited, honored, and grateful to announce that Mamma Chia is officially a Certified Women-Owned Business and joining a diverse and passionate group of female founders in The F Project! We believe that women and girls are catalysts for powerful and positive change in the world and providing them with more equal opportunities will help them reach their full potential.  Equality for women can be achieved when we all make a conscious decision to make it happen, and that’s why we are so proud to be a Certified Women-Owned Business and a new member of The F Project community!

 

OUR STORY:

The path of becoming a Certified Women-Owned Business and F Project member began with the personal journey of Mamma Chia’s founder and CEO, Janie Hoffman. For almost two decades, Janie was challenged with an array of autoimmune disorders, including lupus, dermatomyositis and scleroderma, causing severe rashes and persistent fatigue. Her quest to address and heal these challenges eventually led her to the nutritional powerhouse of chia, which she incorporated into a wholesome, organic diet and wellness routine. She soon began experiencing the vitality, energy and strength that had eluded her for so long. Within a few months, Janie was celebrating a symptom-free life, and the only thing different in her routine was chia.

Janie became so enchanted with these little seeds that she was adding them to everything in her kitchen and whipping up chia-based treats for family and friends. These nutritious and delicious creations included her innovative chia beverages, which proved to be one of her biggest hits. In the summer of 2009, fueled by her passion to share organic chia with the world, Janie founded Mamma Chia — the first chia-based food and beverage company.

 

THE F PROJECT:

In 2018, only 2.2% of all venture capital invested in the U.S. went to companies founded solely by women. Yet women do about 70% of all consumer spending. Despite the lack of investment money, women have managed to generate 1.7 trillion dollars in sales and employ over 9 million people. With the goal of helping female founders become more visible to consumers, The F Project has been launched to create a community that will take a pledge to seek out, buy, and gift female-founded products, and mentor and support fellow female founders to help get more women-led businesses off the ground.

We love sharing our chia seed recipes with you and wanted to change things up! We reached out to some of our most influential and inspiring brand ambassadors and asked them: “How do you use chia?” We were so delighted by their creativity, we just had to share this round-up of why they love the Magic of Chia®. Check out how they incorporate these tiny powerhouses into their daily lives, and hopefully you will get some recipe inspiration for your own chia seed creations!

Ingredients: 

  • (2) 8 oz. package of pitted dates
  • 1 cup coconut sugar or 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp of water (*only add this if using coconut sugar and not maple syrup)
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil (optional)
  • 3 Tbsp Mamma Chia Organic Chia Seeds
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1-1 1/2 cups mulberries (or Rice Krispies/oats)
  • 1/4 cup organic coconut shreds

Preparation:

  1. Chop dates until sticky. In a large flat pan mix in water, coconut oil and coconut sugar. Cook on medium to low heat stirring consistently until you reach a paste-like consistency. (This will roughly take about 10 minutes or until you see little bubbles).
  2. Add vanilla while letting it cool down to touch.
  3. Mix in chia seeds, coconut, and mulberries (or Rice Krispies).
  4. Once combined, roll into balls and transfer to a plate with coconut shreds and roll again.
  5. Store in an air tight container and in the refrigerator.

Ingredients: 

Chia Pudding:

Parfait:

  • Coconut flakes
  • Strawberries
  • 1/2 banana

Chocolate Avocado Mousse:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • Less than 1/4 almond milk
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 4 Tbsp maple syrup

Preparation: 

  1. Whisk chia pudding ingredients together and chill in fridge for 2-3 hours.
  2. Add avocado mousse ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth. Chill in the refrigerator until the chia pudding is ready.
  3. Once chia seeds have created a pudding like consistency begin to layer the pudding into a glass with coconut, bananas, fresh fruit, and top with the chilled avocado mousse you prepared earlier for a nutritious and decadent treat!
  4. Store any remaining leftovers in an air tight container and place in the refrigerator for later.
  5. Dig in and enjoy!
